Academic Interests:
Biology! My dissertation research was on animal physiological ecology (specifically cold acclimatization in chickadees), but I love teaching introductory biology because my interests are so broad. I am excited about continuing to learn more about biology, how to best teach biology and how to help new teachers improve their teaching. I like to use data to inform curricular decisions whenever possible.
Other Interests:
Family and friends, reading, hiking, traveling, teaching and learning more about the world around us.
Biographical:
These are a few of my favorite things from different life stages:
Rock-climbing in Washington D.C. where I grew up.
Debating anything and everything with friends at Swarthmore College.
Exploring a country when I spent a year in Senegal after graduating college.
Falling in love with my husband during graduate school in Ann Arbor.
Becoming a mother in Tucson.
Learning about teaching in Columbia, South Carolina.
Favorite Saying:
"We learn... 10% of what we read, 20% of what we hear, 30% of what we see, 50% of what we see and hear, 70% of what we discuss, 80% of what we experience, 95% of what we teach others." William Glasser's modification of Edgar Dale's "Cone of Experience".
