The Chicken and the Egg: a First-Hand Dissection Experience
Howard E. Evans and Dr. A. Bezuidenhout
All of the 9,000+ bird species we know lay eggs. How are eggs formed, how do they
get into the oviduct, and where do they go to get their albumen, membranes and shell?
See for yourself by dissecting a fresh chicken with an egg in the oviduct.
We will observe reproductive and digestive structures of fresh chickens as you dissect a fresh chicken from a market flock. We will see the infundibulum that “swallowed” the egg. We may see an egg in transport getting its albumen or membranes or shell. We will discuss how the egg is fertilized and how the bird lays the egg. If time permits we can look at the eye and brain.
