Your Lying Eyes and Erring Ears: Perceptual Illusions and How
They Challenge Our Understanding of How We Construct Vision and Hearing From Primary
Sensory Data
Robert Wyttenbach and Ronald Hoy
Just what is illusory about an optical illusion? Are there auditory as well as optical illusions? What is the physical, vs. the psychological, origin(s) of illusions? Does the fact that illusions “work” tell cognitive neuroscientists anything about how our nervous system processes sensory information? We will consider these and other questions in this “hands-on” exploration, which will be conducted by Drs. Robert Wyttenbach and Ron Hoy.
